Who is The Outdoors Mum?

Updated: Jun 4, 2020

I feel like a little introduction is needed as to who I am and why I have a blog called The Outdoors Mum.

Lots of you have been around from the beginning and watched my blog grow and progress but some of you are new and need the low down.

I’m Jenny, a pregnant mother of one who lives in Milton Keynes. I started my Instagram in January 2019 when Daisy my daughter was around 1.5 years old. I started by sharing our outside adventures in the hope to inspire others to venture outside more. I really want parents to realise how much we can all learn from being outside and how amazing it is for our mental wellbeing. Just breathing in some fresh air can relieve a days stress and give us a boost of energy and provide us with some much needed happiness.

I wanted to share toddler friendly places to explore and I wanted to shout from the rooftops that even pre walkers and babies can enjoy being outside. I share adventures come rain or shine. I’ve even worked with my local council in Newport Pagnell to introduce more toddler friendly equipment to our new parks, which was a success and is in the process of being built. I managed to get them to commission a toddler friendly slide with large, wide steps and a handrail for ease of use, something I’m super proud of.

A few months after launching my social media I was invited to write a column in a huge local magazine called Mum to Mum. I write about our top outside adventures in every issue.

A few months after that came my blog/website and Facebook Page. My blog has since progressed to a place where you can find adventures in many counties using my interactive map or filter by the type of day out you want, for example Farm and Parks.

During this time I was also invited on to A Mums Life Radio show where I spoke about the great outdoors and shortly after that I was asked to join the Mums Life team permanently.

I’ve also written a few inspirational outside pieces for local publications such as The Bedford Oracale, MK Pulse, Northampton Pulse and most recently MK Jobs Newspaper. Writing is my pain passion and I absolutely love sharing my thoughts, feelings and views on the world on paper.

During Summer and Autumn last year I arranged a few outside meet ups in the hope to gather like minded parents together to mingle and make friends. They were a success and lots of you have actually made real genuine connections and friendships through The Outdoors Mum pages. I’ll be continuing these meet ups once I’m settled into spring 2020.

In June 2019 I found out I was pregnant with baby number two and my social media content has progressed with me sharing quite a few details about my personal pregnancy journey including having gestational diabetes as well as getting out and about outside of course.

I also work as a Flight Planner for a European Airline so I definitely have my hands full!

So I think that’s you all caught up! And this takes us to January 2020. A lot has happened in the last year. I’ve been presented with a lot of opportunities most of which have pushed me really far out of my comfort zone but the experiences have made me who I am present day.

My goals for 2020 are to carry on spreading the no such thing as bad weather ethos and that the outside is a fun and an educational place. I wish to connect more of my followers together to ensure we all have a Mum friend to go to the park with plus, I love meeting you all. I hope to create a newsletter for you all to enjoy. I hope to continue being on the radio and writing more. I wish to carry on sharing my honest parenting highs and lows. And I wish to be the best mother to two beautiful girls.
